2022: The Return of Wes Welker

Miami Dolphins

On March 5th, 2007 the Miami Dolphins traded wide receiver Wes Welker to the division rival New England Patriots for a 2nd round pick and a 7th round pick.

This rare intra-division trade would net the Miami Dolphins Center Samson Satele in the 2nd round, whom played for the Dolphins for three total seasons. However, this trade is memorable largely for the fact that Wes Welker would go on to have an incredible career for the Patriots with 7,605 total yards and 37 touchdowns across his six years in New England.

I know this is a sensitive subject. Believe me, I know.

However, while many Dolphins fans will never forget this trade, they can now take solace in the fact that Wes Welker is back on the Miami Dolphins sideline wearing the aqua and orange as our new Wide Receivers coach.

The photo above, shared by the Miami Dolphins, features new head coach Mike McDaniel and of course Wes Welker on the sideline during the playing of the national anthem – side by side. What’s so iconic about this photo is that it was taken before McDaniel’s first game as a head coach, albeit a preseason game, with our long lost Wes Welker by his side. This photo gave me chills in the very best of ways. This photo represents a new beginning.

Is this a sign of positive things to come? This fan believes the answer is yes!

So, welcome back Wes.
